Without sacrificing edge for comfort, up-and-coming designer Chelsea Sutrisno introduces her first collection of sleek, body-con dresses, tops and jackets against an all black canvas.





The nine pieces that comprise the line are made of double-knit stretch fabric for a look that is easy-to-wear and yet still formal. Zippers, back cutouts and the juxtaposition of sheer with solid black fabric create contrast and add visual appeal to the simple, but modern designs.



Sutrisno is a fashion design alum of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Her resume boasts fashion marketing and public relations work experience with industry heavyweights like BCBG Max Azria Group, Chanel and Gucci Group.



Knowing that she had always wanted to design, Sutrisno decided it was now or never.



The designer began sketching first and ultimately finishing the sample collection in late 2009. She held a full time job at the same time, juggling appointments with patternmakers and to fabric and trim stores all before closing time at 6 p.m. “I did everything alone,” remembers Sutrisno, “It was actually pretty stressful.The hard work paid off.



The fledgling designer is already being courted by veteran buyers, and her collection is due to arrive at Galeries Lafayette and online at www.stantonjames.com beginning in July.
