Whether it be “makeshift roses” to androgynous looks, great styling moments are always to be had on set with fashion stylist Darryl “Darryl G” Glover.
With only two years of professional styling under his belt and a Fashion Styling and Costume Design certification from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Darryl G. has managed to work with talents like singer/songwriter Janelle Monáe, shoot cover editorials for Honey Magazine and execute runway looks for designers Oscar de la Renta and Badgely Mischka. His motto: Dream Big…Grind Hard.”
A former dancer, Darryl G. once planned to go to law school after earning a B.A. in Criminology and Sociology in 2007. He worked for four years as a kindergarten teacher before his desire to work as a fashion stylist finally overtook him.“I was tired of talking about it,” he says. “Everything out of my mouth was: ‘That shirt, that dress, those shoes, those sneakers.’”
Now, Darryl G. combs the market for trends, researching story ideas, rebuilding his book, acquiring new clients and freelance projects. He never tires of asking “questions, questions and more questions”, and he admits that he might begin his next new project by listening to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Dream Big”.
While Darryl G. is open to children styling, he says that he does have a book of concepts he would like to bring to fruition. “Styling is fun, it comes naturally,” he says. “And it provides me with the chance to make someone feel really good about themselves."
